Peru lifts state of emergency in Lima

The Peruvian Government Thursday lifted the state of emergency decreed in Lima amid mounting violence since the Dec. 7 impeachment of then-President Pedro Castillo Terrones, Prime Minister Alberto Otárola announced. Castillo's government had also decreed a state of emergency in Lima and its neighboring province of Callao to combat crime.

Brazilian magistrate says Bolsonaro may not wear or use Arabian jewels

A magistrate from Brazil's Court of Audit (TCU) Thursday banned former President Jair Bolsonaro from wearing and selling jewelry worth R$ 400,000 (around US$ 77,430) brought from Saudi Arabia which the once head of state allegedly admitted having received.

The Falklands' voice heard: Commemorating 10 years since the Referendum

Ten years ago, the people of the Falkland Islands participated in a landmark referendum, overseen by international observers, to determine their political status as an Overseas Territory of the United Kingdom. The question posed was, “Do you wish the Falkland Islands to retain their current political status?” and an overwhelming 99.8% of voters, on a 92% turnout, chose to remain a self-governing territory of the UK.

Uruguay, Brazil agree on joint infrastructure works

Chile shows negative inflation in February

Chile recorded a 0.1% decrease in its Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the month of February of 2023 for an interannual 11.9% increase, the National Statistics Institute (INE) reported in Santiago Wednesday. It was the first negative monthly variation since November 2020.
