Record 2023/24 cruise season for Uruguay; port incentives for 2024/25 season

Uruguay will be reducing 20% port tariffs for cruise vessels this coming season 2024/25, announced further infrastructure facilities in Maldonado and marinas for large yachts in the harbors of Carmelo and Colonia, just across from Buenos Aires.

Lula lays the foundation stone of Chile's Space Center

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva Tuesday laid the foundation stone of Chile's planned Space Center at the Cerrillos Air Base in Santiago during a ceremony also attended by his local colleague Gabriel Boric Font. The two countries also signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in Space Activities for Peaceful Purposes.

At least 5 killed in Debby's first raid through the US

Tropical Storm (or Hurricane) “Debby” has left at least 5 people dead and “catastrophic” flooding in the southern US after making landfall this week. President Joseph Biden has already decreed the emergency as further damage is expected in the coming days. Four of the casualties were in Florida and the other in Georgia.

Former First Lady files criminal complaint against Alberto Fernández

Former Argentine First Lady Fabiola Yáñez Tuesday filed a criminal complaint against her then-common-law spouse and head of state Alberto Fernández for exerting “gender violence” against her. The case ended up in the court of Federal Judge Julián Ercolini, who banned Fernández from leaving the country, coming anywhere near the mother of his son Francisco, or even contacting her on the telephone.

Argentina on alert over possible Iranian attack

The Government of Argentina admitted Tuesday that it had received a security alert from Israel about a possible Iranian attack. Cabinet Chief Guillermo Francos said Israel expected “a very strong attack from Iran against targets that are friends.” Argentina has already suffered two anti-Jewish attacks in the 1990s.

Venezuelan prosecution launches probe into opposition's declaration
