A strike of dock workers in Argentina's grains and oilseeds export hub Rosario was holding on Tuesday for the second day running 126 ships, which are queuing and waiting to load.

The industrial action which took off on Monday in demand of improved wage conditions and with no time limit, means the situation could worsen given that it's the peak moment for Argentina's soy harvest.

Argentina is the world's leading exporter of soy flour and oil and third, behind Brazil and the US in soybeans and corn. Almost 80% of the country's crop is exported from Rosario and other adjoining ports along the Paraná river.

“There are 126 ships affected at this moment,” said Guillermo Wade, president of the Rosario Port and Maritime Activities Chamber.

All terminals at the hub’s ports of Timbues, Puerto General San Martin and San Lorenzo were affected by the strike.

Labor protests are common in Argentina’s soy belt, where powerful unions and companies often fight over the spoils of multimillion-dollar exports.

The daily cost of holding up a vessel ready to load is estimated in 20.000 dollars.

    Gee,
I thought the Labour Unions were the buddies of CFK ??
    I guess not.

“Oligarchs” aren't to blame this time.

Why doesn't Kristina send in her army of La Campora unemployed??

    Very frustrating for her.

    She better do something fast...

What's your point, Marcos?? BC has nothing to do with Argentine Labour :-)

Is CFK a champion of Argentina's working poor , or not?

Will she sell them out ??

Will she give in to the “Oligarchs”? Will she 'take from the people' for US $$, to pay foreigners??

    LOL, waiting....

    :-D
