Argentina expressed support for the agreement reached on Sunday in Genève by the world powers regarding Iran's nuclear program and also revealed it has been holding a round of talks in Teheran to advance with the implementation of the AMIA Memorandum of Understanding.

“Argentina celebrates that the signing of the agreement in Geneve shows that diplomatic negotiations confirm it is possible to reach accords without the need to appeal to armed aggressions”, said Minister of Foreign Affairs Hector Timerman on Sunday.

He added that with the same spirit of using diplomacy to resolve conflicts by peaceful means, “last Wednesday and Thursday, Argentine and Iranian staff from Foreign Affairs and Justice ministries met in Zurich.

The purpose was to negotiate the time schedule that will demand complying each point of the Memorandum of Understanding agreed between Iran and Argentina to open the way for the courts to decide on the resolution of the AMIA case.

The case refers to the bombing of a Jewish organization in Buenos Aires on July 1994, which killed almost ninety people and left hundreds injured and maimed. Despite several investigations the case has not advanced except for a yet to be proved alleged Iranian mastermind responsibility with Hezbollah directly involved.

”During the meeting in Zurich Argentina handed the Iranian delegation a proposal which would enable to end the mandate of the Memorandum in twelve months, following the confirmation of the Experts Commission, which also includes the guarantees and immunities that would enable the Argentine magistrate with the case, to continue with the inquiry and questionings in Teheran“, revealed Timerman.

He added ”the Iranian delegation promised it was committed to coming up with a reply to the Argentine proposal in a short time”.

Yes Timerman, yet again an English person shows you how grown up diplomacy works.

Do you think Baroness Ashton would have run away if persons directly involved in the nuclear dispute were present?

Do you think she would have succeeded in steering the discussions by organising sham conferences in Teheran, populated with American scientists pretending to represent the host and neighbouring countries?

Do you think the Iranians would come to the table if the Baroness had asked her spokesperson in Iran to insult their hosts?

Keep it coming Timerman, the show is a ratings winner.

The situation does have a slightly comical aspect when viewed from the angle that neither Argentina or Iran can be trusted to keep to contracts, agreements etc. that they have signed, ratified etc.
I just wonder which one of them will 'break' this 'agreement' first!
