Gibraltar should have its own MP

More on the subject of overseas territories having their own MP's with Labour backbencher Andrew Mackinlay not only being behind the idea but also saying that the most "glaring injustice and anomaly" is Gibraltar. Reported in The House Magazine Mr Mackinlay says that Gibralter, despite being in the geographical jurisdiction of NATO and the European Union, is frequently traduced by Spain and other parties. Other overseas territories such as Anguilla, the Falkland Islands and St Helena also need to be represented. The United States allows a non-voting delegate in Congress for Guam, the US Virgin Islands and US Samoa. Overseas territories in the Carribean and the Pacific Ocean were represented in the national assembly in France. Spain and the Netherlands have adopted the same policy. The MP would be able to put down questions relating to defence, foreign affairs and those things which demonstrably have a ramification for that overseas territory or other overseas territories.

FI Photographic Exhibitions.

Over the period 7th of March through to the 1st of June a photographic exhibition was held in London, Gosport and Dundee. The Falkland Islands Photographic Exhibitions have successfully generated media and public interest in the Falkland Islands for the last three years. Organised by Keene Public Affairs Consultants and FIGO the exhibitions are designed to generate positive interest in the Falklands and bring our way of life to regional UK audiences in a graphic way and also to challenge the views and images UK audiences may have of the Islands. This year they invited visitors to complete a survey to ascertain the thoughts of the public. In the survey they were asked to answer three questions. In the first question participants were asked, "how did you hear about the exhibition?" To which the majority answered "by visiting the venue." To the second question of "What were your impressions of the Islands before you came to the exhibition?" participants were given three options, positive, negative and neutral. 8% answered positive, 72% answered negative and 20% were neutral.
