    If the Falklands and Chile have had bumper seasons, why has Argentina had a bad one? Corruption perhaps?

    Actually Chile aquaculture accounted for the increase vs. wild captures being in decrease. Investment climate and good business practices give Chile it's advantage over Argentina.

    The fishing stocks are being damaged and tighter catch controls are required.

    Very small Reineta coming ashore and no jurel ... not good.

    @boufiewolf
    Chilean and Norwegian businesses are the biggest players in the fish farming world. There is foreign investment in Chile and Chilean investment abroad.

    Regarding fishing quotas, I understand that limits have been set too high based on industry petition and not based on scientific recommendation.

    In Chile about 50,000 people work in the small-scale fishing industry. They were made promises by Bachelet during the election to reduce the industrial fishing cuotas to protect their livelihoods. Very recently they have been reminding her of her promise.
