    Why didn't the energy company have plans to relocate those affected? Was their plan “F off or drown”?

    Tell that to all the localities that will now have to endure oil burning thermoelectric plants. 270 MW is a lot of oil to burn.

    I am surprised there were not many more complaints over this project with the cavalier approach to the future of those displaced if the project went ahead.

    I have said before that the lack of forward thought by the LatAm people at all levels of society is incomprehensible to any western business man. How these companies thought they could get away with this just underlines my judgement. Seven years work for nothing.

    It looks very much like the approach UTE has to everything and they are a complete disaster for Uruguay.

    Meanwhile, in Venezuela people are dying because the hospitals lack supplies;
    Why is Mercopress NOT reporting on the chaos in Venezuela?
    People are dying.
    The Government is massively corrupt.
    There is critical insecurity and constant danger in the streets.
    A critical lack of medicine.
    The World’s highest Inflation Rate.

    A critical lack of basic goods and services.
    An ideological take-over leading to a Vene-Cuban form of enforced indentured state-dependency.
    Widespread media censorship.
    Constant repression of political opposition.
    THOUSANDS illegally jailed without trial.
    Daily torture and abuse of the Human Rights of the population.
    Why does Latin America remain silent?
    Why is Mercopress NOT reporting on the chaos in Venezuela?

    “Why is Mercopress NOT reporting on the chaos in Venezuela?”, Turnip at 5 asks...
    ... Maybe because most of the chaos he describes above is not hapenning in Venezuela, I say...

    PS:

    @Think
    Sounds like your position re HidroAysen has more to do with a desire for corporations not to profit than the balance of needs for the people.

    If it were a state venture would it get your blessing?

    ...

    Lots of rain here in Elqui last night and plenty snow on the Cordillera. The near empty Embalse Puclaro should at last begin to see its level rise.

    2 @ NoThink....
    The judgment of the history will say who won with that determination from the present authorities in the Chilean Gvt.
    When the lack and high prices of energy in our country means lesser economic growth, enterpreuners and companies closing with lot of jobs lost because lack of competititvness, higuer consumer prices index, etc.
    In the other hand, how many termal plants (or whatever othr kind of renewable energy plants) will be necessary to replace the expected ammoun from Hydroaysen complex...??? How many emisions or how many extensión of land will be necessary to replace it...???? It seems that the stupidideologist (AKA deep ecologist) don´t have their one neuron brain working properly to keep in count those facts.....
    I don´t denay that renewable energy must be used when and where it's possible and together other ways of energy production......
    So, as conclusion, who won.....???
    Not the Chilean citizens, of course.....not the Chilean economy, either.....
    Just those politicians that makes their careers based on the destruction of the society and its economic development to keep people within the poverty to offer them the class-fighting as their political program......you know who they are, don´t you??? Yes, the leftist that have showed how you can destroy a country....(Cuba, Venezuela, Bolivia, Argentina, etc.). We, the Chileans, have suffered it in a deep grade between 1970 and 1973 and it took a lot of years of sacrifice to return to development and growth.....
