Prince Harry will be visiting Brazil and Chile this month in support of the UK's interests in the region and will reflect the strong relationship the two countries have with the UK. The visit will also allow Prince Harry to build on the links he began to forge in South America during his official visit to Brazil in March 2012. Read full article

    Sounds very hectic.

He is a GREAT ambassador for the UK as his recent visit down under showed.

The Queen's children have been greatly overshadowed by her grandchildren.

I wouldn't necessarily say that, but most of what some of the previous generation does is more sedate meetings and paperwork rather than jet-setting and flesh-pressing, as befits people who are creeping closer to retirement age.

Anne would be the best example, she's 63 but she's still the one of the British members of the International Olympic Committee, as well as St John Ambulance and a host of other things.

One thing that might have been a nice touch would be for Harry to go and see the Chile v Australia game (seeing as he's potentially their future head of state as well).

As fourth in line to the throne behind a grandmother who will see out a century, Harry isn't a potential head of state any longer.

    Probably, but you never know...

George VI was also considered to be not a potential future head of state (at least I would assume so, given that the ship that he was serving on was in the single largest naval battle of the first world war, and you tend to at least try and keep immediate heirs to the throne out of the firing line).

Him and William have served their time in our armed services and have seen real combat and no doubt would fully play their part if we ever went to war again with a certain country. Unlike the children of many heads of state who act like gigilos and get fat on government cash, like Maximo lard arse for example.

George VI was next in line to the throne after his brother Edward.

Harry is behind George who is behind William who is behind Charles.

Totally totally different circumstances. It would take 4 abdication or deaths or a mixture of both.

So, this is a joke, right? A theocracy is sending a royal oligarch to two republics in order to represent it. Its not credible. It can only be that the particular oligarch has decided that he wants to see some soccer games and that his subjects should pay for that.

I just did a quick scan of the Brazilian media and I can see no mention of this junket. Also I've just asked a couple of Brazilian colleagues about the mentioned 2012 visit. They know nothing about any of this. So, if the purpose of the junket is to somehow represent the UK in some manner, it is singularly ineffective.

Ah she's just an envious party pooper, who is a little upset, understandable given our shared history. That a UK Army attack helicopter pilot, who just happens to be young, good looking, rich and worst of all a British Royal is being hosted by the Brazilians.

Bloody hell, from what I saw of his last visit, they could not wait to welcome him back.

Another thing, with all the bad press, uncertainty and worry the Brazilians have had over the WC, they must be thanking who ever it is that is responsible, for is his visit.

Great PR for the competition, they could not buy it if they tried.

I personally and I hate football, wish them, apart from that knobhead Brassileo, the best wishes and luck in in their endeavours.

    Go Brazil!

“singularly ineffective”. As are your postings.
He would only meet IMPORTANT people, so that's you out in the cold.

Theocracy is a form of government in which a deity is officially recognized as the civil Ruler and official policy is governed by officials regarded as divinely guided, or is pursuant to the doctrine of a particular religion or religious group.

    Fails on this count

    noun, plural oligarchies.
    1.
a form of government in which all power is vested in a few persons or in a dominant class or clique; government by the few.
    2.
a state or organization so ruled.
    3.
the persons or class so ruling.

    Fails on this count also.

Keep up your track record of failure....always worth a laugh.

No need for you to be concerned, Hepatitis, I doubt he'd want anything to do with a disease-raddled old witch. Perhaps you could get together with Jose @20. He's desperate.
@20 See how I'm doing my best for you. Trying to find you a proper raddled slag. Of course, there's no guarantee that “Hepatia” is female. Wouldn't make any difference to you, would it? While a constitutional monarch may seem to be anachronism there are numerous advantages to having a non-political head of state.

We could take a pragmatic view and see how well constitutional monarchies scored according to various metrics. The Democracy Index reveals that 7 of the 10 highest scorers are constitutional monarchies, while 6 out of the 10 highest HDIs scorers are constitutional monarchies.

    “2014 isn't it?”

Given the way Argentina acts towards the Falkland Islanders you wouldn't think so, much more reminiscent of 19th Century colonialism.

Considering how much friendlier the UK is to Brazil compared to countries such as Argentina, it is a wonder you don't scorn Cristina every time she visits.

You seem to have this illusion and vision that Brazil is on the way to being some great power and yet you yourself are so parochial.

“I assume ” - so you don 't know for sure, right?

Great move by the British Government - a Goodwill visit by a very popular Prince, just when all the attention of the world is on Brazil and South America.
Ironic for disapproving you and other SA Trolls, Harry is welcomed by Brazil (and Chile) as a distinguished visitor adding prestige to their moment of glory on the world stage.
Conspicuous is the SA neighbour directly between Brazil and Chile whom he did NOT visit - Argentina.
How dare he snub CFK - oh, right, she's not supposed to care for such a representative of British Colonialism and Imperialism. Harry's uncle, Prince Andrew, was an active member of the RN task force against Argentina during the Falklands Liberation.
And yet... both her BFF's , Bachalet and Rousseff, will have their picture with British Royalty, and chummy moments with him to show their children and Grandkids.

Really sad I must break your heart again, but not one single person in Argentina cares about him visiting or not.

In fact isn't this the umpteenth time in the last decade a “UK figure” goes to Brazil, Uruguay, Chile, or Peru? It's obvious what they are trying to do, and it has failed miserably as it has not been the end of the world in Argentina.

I know it's difficult to believe but you don't matter, at the end of the day, and the complete innocuousness of this Anglo behavior is practical proof.

He shot a buffalo 10 years ago . I see you keep up with current affairs !

The ranch was owned by Count Claudio Zichy-Thyssen, one of the country’s most powerful landowners with more than 170,000 acres stocked with game. Located in ARGENTINA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Water buffalo are rather tasty - I tried it in South Africa.

I presume the Count...also shoots some of the game in his estate, so , again, what is your problem .
Or is it OK for Argentineans to shoot game. Totally hypocritical, as usual.

That rather sounds like you the way you are foaming at the mouth.

He was invited to your miserable country so he sublimated his urge to take out a few of the populace by shooting a water buffalo instead.
    You should be grateful !

If you knew anything about how Apache helicopters worked, you would see that what he says is correct. You don't look out the window to see at what you are shooting. You look at a monitor screen full of target details distance , angles, weapons chosen and availability. Cursors mark the target and then you fire. Exactly like a video game.
Much better than spraying the area with cannon fire hoping to hit something.

Of course as someone who admires the Taliban you would disapprove.
These noble fighters who kill children for wanting to go to school, leaving car bombs in markets to murder scores of women and children.
They deserve your support and sympathy.

and who the fuck could care about the little twat´s visit?
only a pair of viejas gordas and the hola magazine perhaps.

if you want a good ambassador for england or the british islands or the uk or whatever is the name of that country, i would suggest a person like jonny wilkinson.

at least he has been great on and off the pitch and has never killed anyone.

Paulce...since no Argentines ever assisted (fought) in the two world wars for the freedoms they enjoy today, I can understand why you would not understand what being a soldier is. On this, the 70th anniversary of D-Day, maybe you should give some thought to that. Thousands of Canadian, British and American forces died on just that one day....for FREEDOM. For the World. Something you don't seem to understand.

probably you are the kind of ignorant who thinks that churchill was some kind of saint.

on the other hand the same churchill was the one who wanted argentina to remain neutral, so the argentine merchant ships were not going to be attacked by the germans.

millions of tons of food were delivered from argentina to the uk, and as always, the british did not pay a shite.

we are still waiting for them to honor their debt.

http://en.mercopress.com/2014/06/02/prince-harry-will-be-visiting-brazil-and-chile-for-the-first-time-later-this-month#comment330698: This is a bizarre re-write of history.

The main war aim of the Entente powers in WWI was the preservation and possible expansion of their empires. That is they fought for the right to enslave the colonial people. In no way can this be recast as a fight for freedom.

It was the US, on its entry into the war, that provided what would become the defining war aim - democracy. The problem was that, leaving aside the colonies, that neither the Russian Empire or the UK were democratic. The only country that might be considered democratic was the French Republic.

At the start of WWII the Soviet Union was not free and “freedom” could not have been one of its war aims. Likewise the UK enslaved many hundreds of million people around the world and cannot have been fighting for freedom either. The only country to which this war aim could possibly be attributed to was the US.

Yeah because all those African-Americans could vote back then.

Democracy meant different things back then. However some countries were clearly more democratic than others.

I'm stumped on how the French were more democratic than the UK with all their colonies as well.

An interesting but rather twisted slant on history.
Yes, the USA was a democracy IF you were white. The black population had very little say in government. It was only because of the desegregation movements in the 1960's that blacks in the south could vote without fear of being lynched.

To say that the USA entered WW1 as an altruistic act to promote democracy is disingenuous.

It was an act of self interest and protection.

The Zimmerman telegram was the defining tipping point.

“We intend to begin on the first of February unrestricted submarine warfare. We shall endeavor in spite of this to keep the United States of America neutral. In the event of this not succeeding, we make Mexico a proposal of alliance on the following basis: make war together, make peace together, generous financial support and an understanding on our part that Mexico is to reconquer the lost territory in Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona. The settlement in detail is left to you. You will inform the President of the above most secretly as soon as the outbreak of war with the United States of America is certain and add the suggestion that he should, on his own initiative, invite Japan to immediate adherence and at the same time mediate between Japan and ourselves. Please call the President's attention to the fact that the ruthless employment of our submarines now offers the prospect of compelling England in a few months to make peace.” Signed, ZIMMERMANN

How could America acquire Hawaii against the wishes of the native population.....by the process of flooding the islands with immigrants and deposing the Queen.

    French democratic ?
Colonies subjugated in Algeria, Morocco, Tunisa , Indo China, tracts of Africa, Caribbean , South Seas ?
Voting permitted but NOT for independence from France.
    How is this democracy ?

The truth is that if the colonies are considered then no European country could be considered democratic. But the truth is that those sentiments given in the 14 point speech that may have lead to decolonization where only applied by the US to Europe. This was a serious strategic mistake on the part of the US and which, along with continued US stupidity, ultimately to Vietnam and even Iraq - among other disasters.

I appreciate your point about African-American voters, although I should point out that many could and did vote. But the key point is that the US and, to a lesser extent, France were doctrinaire democratic nations. The UK was not then and is not now. This problem of the lack of democracy was partially recognized at the time by the UK government itself and the Premier promised that if the country would continue fighting a system of almost universal male suffrage would be introduced. Unfortunately the British population did not view this 'blood for rights' equation with the disdain it deserved and executed their very own 'American Revolution' in the UK to sweep the whole rotten system away. As a result universal suffrage, as we would understand it, was implemented only after WWII and then, only for the HoR.

US - The fact is that in the US full enfranchisement of citizens was not secured until the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

UK - In 1928 all women and men over 21 now have the vote.
The Representation of the People Act of 1948 the main purpose of which was to tidy clean up the system - very democratic don't you think.

France - 1944 women were allowed to vote.

Argentina - 1947 women were allowed to vote.

In the 2012 Democracy Index, the UK is rated as a full democracy (so is Uruguay). Argentina is rated as a flawed democracy.
