Legalizing abortion debate takes off in socially conservative Chile

Chile, one of a handful of the world's countries that outlaws abortion in all cases, will debate a bill this year that seeks to relax the ban in certain circumstances, a government spokesman announced. President Michelle Bachelet who was re-elected and took office in March had pledged a change in the law ahead of her election. Read full article

    The article is misleading, yet if you know someone in the medical community you would learn that abortions take place here when it is prudent. Mothers at risk and fetus complications are reasons for the medical procedure being done on a daily basis. Michelle however is in the process to “modernize” our county policy completely.

    Good to see that Chile, out of all Latin America, is finally throwing off the shackles of the Catholic Church and starting to encourage equality and giving women power and control over their own bodies.

    Hopefully soon it will not be the patriarchy that has control over the womb but women themselves!
