The US was very uncomfortable with the thought that Argentina was about to buy Chinese-developed and Pakistan-made JF-17 Thunder or Indian-made HAL Tejas from China. The plan is a US initiative.
The US suggested that now when Denmark received its F-35s they could help out by selling its old F-16s or Indian jet fighters.

The UK has already lifted the military embargo, which has been restricting Argentina's access to the international arms market, imposed by the UK after the Falklands War.

@JuanCervantes , No, I would have preferred them to acquire the Chinese JF17 with PL15 and PL17 beyond visual range missiles.

It is also collaborative with Russia, the fact that these jets do not go to Ukraine, it is a collaboration for peace

'Internal security' What's that supposed to mean? Who are you going to use them against 'internally'?
Who's going to maintain them?
Who's going to fly them?
In 5 years time you'll be using them as gate guards.
@darragh Internal security, means have the capacity of a supersonic jet to intercept a civil plane hijacked by terrorists and be able to shoot it down, preventing it from crashing into civilian targets.
Mar 31st, 2024 - 03:55 pm - Link - Report abuse 0In addition, the Argentine air force has historically been characterized by having highly trained pilots. Having 24 jets... allows us to have a squadron of 200 or 300 trained pilots, as we always had.
More modern aircraft can be purchased if necessary in a matter of days, but you cannot have the human resources ready... that takes time.

It will be fun watching Argentina fuck this up.
The comments are so funny what the west is doing by selling these jets to Arg its exactly the same for the ones its going to send to the Ukraine, training maintenance pilots etc.etc and to top it all they are no match for 5th Genaration Russian jets either Oh the irony of it !
