  Falklands sends more firefighters and FIDF to combat fire at Sea Lion Island

  

  Falkland Islands firefighters continued to fight the fire at Sea Lion island over the weekend. On Monday 11 March additional firefighters have been sent to Sea Lion Island to provide further support. Members of the FIDF, Falkland Islands Defense Force, are also being sent out to provide logistic support for the firefighters.

  No backtracking on Rule 1115, EU envoy tells Paraguayan producers

  

  European Union (EU) Environment Commission envoy Emanuele Pitto told Paraguayan exporters Thursday in Asunción that there would be no turning back from Rule 1115 banning raw materials and products associated with deforestation and forest degradation. The measure not allowing imports nor exports of these goods has been in force since June 29 last year.

  Argentina leads in complying with EU deforestation legislation

  

  Deforestation-free soybeans to the European Union, guess who is taking the lead? Believe it or not Argentina have sent three soy-meal shipments via the Visec platform, each with fully traceable data. By the second semester, the entire soybean chain in the country will utilize the platform making Argentina the first country to fully comply with deforestation legislation implemented by the European Parliament.

  The British Antarctic Survey has been modernizing Antarctic infrastructure for future generations of polar scientists. Construction in the Antarctic is challenging and the Antarctic Infrastructure Modernization Program (AIMP) has made great progress at Rothera Research Station. The program will transform how the British Antarctic Survey enables and supports polar science.

  Corrientes and Montevideo under water due to heavy rains

  

  The city of Corrientes, the capital of the Argentine province of the same name, was left under water Sunday as 209 millimeters of heavy rains caused floods and material damage while vehicles were swept away by the current. Classes were suspended for Monday amid widespread power outages, with streets turned into temporary rivers.

  Uruguay signs MOU to produce green hydrogen locally

  

  The Government of Uruguay Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the company HIF for the building of a green hydrogen plant in the department (province) of Paysandú. The US$ 6 billion investment is expected to generate some 3,000 jobs.

  Uruguay first two months 2024 with 100% renewable energy generation and surplus to export

  

  Uruguay managed during the first two months of this year 100% renewable energy generation and had sufficient surplus to supply neighbors Argentina and Brazil, making the local government-owned power company, UTE, the major single exporting company. The information was supplied by the Electric Market Administrators, ADME, which confirmed that 100% of electricity generation is from renewable sources.
