”Statements on the Malvinas war from minister (Jorge) Burgos have been well received by the Argentine people”, said Rossi ”Statements on the Malvinas war from minister (Jorge) Burgos have been well received by the Argentine people”, said Rossi

Argentine Defense minister Agustín Rossi praised on Monday his Chilean peer statements relative to Chile's role and attitude during the Falklands war when Britain sent a task force to expulse the Argentine military invasion in 1982.

”Thirty years on from the 1984 Peace and Friendship treaty between Argentina and Chile, statements on the Malvinas war from minister (Jorge) Burgos have been well received by the Argentine people“, said Rossi to a local Buenos Aires radio.

Burgos in a Sunday interview said that he was not proud of how Chile had acted during the 1982 Falklands war, but was most proud of the 1984 treaty of which later this year both countries will be celebrating as a major milestone in neighborly relations.

”I believe that the majority of Chileans are not proud, at all, with the attitude of the (Pinochet) dictatorship during the Malvinas war (in logistics support of UK). And I believe the Argentine people are neither proud, in respect to the attitude of their dictatorship. But that happened in a different world, in a different scenario“, Burgos was quoted by La Tercera.

”I celebrate the statements from minister Burgos, particularly since at the time both Argentina and Chile were ruled by dictatorships and today we have a completely different reality in which we converge in a framework of regional cooperation between all Latin American countries“, indicated Rossi.

He added that Burgos ”has a great commitment with the values of democracy in his country and is most abiding of human rights“, adding that the current bilateral relations between the neighboring countries is ”excellent from all point of view”.

Rossi also confirmed the ongoing preparations for the November 2014 celebrations of the 30th anniversary of the 1984 peace and friendship treaty, brokered by the Vatican and Uruguay, which helped end the century long dispute over the Beagle channel and adjoining islands in the extreme south of the continent.

why they feel they have to pay lip service to Argentina that is fast falling into the toilet, beggars belief.

    however, they are just words

Argentina will fall again and one day the electorate will not fall for the peronist claptrap that has condemmed their country to misery for decades

Chile along with the other south american countries are probably just playing the game while Argentina is unstable, after all, we all know when its unstable it does random acts of violence to take the peoples mind off its political state. Like the falklands invasion.

Chile has suffered over the years with illegal land grabs by argentina

In my own opinion, i believe the UK should help chile take its land back and restore calm and common sense to the south of the continent

Only talk, move on. Argentina , you have to get rid of the current government, before you have the slightest chance of economic recovery.
No news about the holdouts negociations? Far more important I would say.

Ah that's nice, now how about reciprocating and apologising to Chile for your plan to invade them.
