Iguazu falls Devil's Gorge closed to the public because of rising waters
The Devil's Gorge is the main attraction of the Iguazu falls The Iguazu National Park in Argentina has taken precaution measures and closed access to the Devil's Gorge of the world famous Iguazú falls because of an imminent rise in water levels after the Itaipu and Yacireta dams announced they will be forced to increase the outflow.
“Because of an imminent increase in the flow volume and the rise of the water level of the Iguazú river, the application of the security protocol in the footbridges at the upper Iguazú national park falls has been activated”, according to the official release.
Based on this the Devil's Gorge lookout has been closed to the public.
When the Parana river has a normal water flow, the railings of the footbridges are lifted and visitors can walk to the Devil's Gorge outlook.
But when water rises, these structures are withdrawn to allow the flow of water to circulate freely, reducing resistance to the water and the floating elements which come with the water flow.
Sometimes as is happening currently, the level of the river is very high and the speed and volume of the flow increases significantly, thus the precaution measures.
