    Red and white festivity on Gibraltar National Day 2024

    On a warm sunny day, Gibraltarians in traditional Rock colors of red and white assembled at noon for some short political addresses and to sing the National Anthem

    The 10th of September is celebrated as Gibraltar National Day, to commemorate the referendum held on that date in 1967 in which the people of Gibraltar were asked whether they wished to pass under Spanish sovereignty, remain under British sovereignty, with its own self-governing institutions. The result was a landslide victory for the latter choice.

    Falklands delegation present at Gibraltar National Day on Sunday

    A group of eighteen members from the House of Commons and the House of Lords will be in Gibraltar this week on a working visit for National Day, Sunday September 10. They will coincide with a separate delegation of leaders from the British Overseas Territories, including Falkland Islands representatives who will engage in preparatory work with a view to the next meeting of the Joint Ministerial Council with the UK in November.

    Royal visit to Gibraltar

    On Tuesday and Wednesday this week Gibraltar had a unique opportunity to express their unwavering loyalty to Her Majesty the Queen by welcoming The Earl and Countess of Wessex to the Rock who were visiting to celebrate Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee with the people of Gibraltar.

    Second British Aircraft Carrier visits Gibraltar

    HMS Prince of Wales arrived in Gibraltar on Tuesday 6 July for a programmed logistics visit. This inaugural visit to Gibraltar will also be her first non-UK port visit.

    Gibraltar: New Governor a Royal Navy man

    Sir David took a stroll down Main Street from the Parliament to his new home at the Convent.  On the way he talked to a number of people, including the Chief Rabbi Ron Hassid

    This morning Gibraltar’s new governor was sworn in at the Gibraltar Parliament. Normally this is a high profile event with a guard of honour, residents lining the street outside and a packed crowd in the public gallery and a flurry of photographers. Sadly Sir David Steel missed out on that part of his welcome due to the COVID crisis.

    Gibraltar Marks EU Departure

    The Chief Minister Fabian Picardo received the EU flag, and the Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Joseph Garcia, who is the Minister for relations with Europe and the Commonwealth, handed over the Commonwealt

    Gibraltar originally joined the EU under the British Treaty of Accession in 1972. On the evening of Friday 31st January 2020 at midnight Central European Time the departure from the European Union at the appointed time the UK formally ceased being a member state.
