The Falkland Islands are preparing for the commemoration of significant anniversaries of events from the 1982 conflict when Argentine forces invaded the country. The first of these will take place at 2pm on Sunday 3 May, when a short memorial service will be held at Goose Green to mark the death of Lieutenant Nick Taylor.
In the event of a 'no deal' Brexit the UK Government assures it will, “seek to negotiate the best possible access to the EU market for Falklands fish and meat products as part of the future relationship with the EU.”
Falkland Islands lawmakers MLAs Mark Pollard, Leona Roberts and Roger Spink on 24th May visited Portsmouth to present a ceremonial Falkland Islands flag and plaque to the City of Portsmouth and its veterans; to be flown at the Falklands Memorial by the Square Tower, on the iconic Portsmouth harbour.
Falkland Islands Members of the Legislative Assembly Mark Pollard and Stacy Bragger are travelling to the UK to attend Labor and Conservative Party Conferences. This is a special year for British politics given the ongoing Brexit debate, and countdown to UK leaving the European Union on 29 March 2019.
Mark Pollard has stepped into the role of Chair of the Falklands Islands Association Sub-Committee in the Falklands, replacing Gerald Cheek who is standing down from the Post.
