Members of the Royal Falkland Island Police, Falkland Island Defence Force and Resident Infantry Company are today carrying out a search of the North Coast of East Falkland following the discovery yesterday of military style back packs and an inflatable dingy on a beach there.

During an interview with F.I.B.S. earlier today His Excellency the Governor, Mr Donald Lamont explained that there were rations in the packs, which appeared to be of Argentine origin. He told FIBS it is likely that the search party is looking for bodies.

It is unclear how long the items have been on Concordia beach, which is in the vicinity of Salvador Settlement, however other sources have revealed that the timescale is no more than a couple of weeks.

The Governor has described this as a tragic incident and a complete mystery. Falkland Island authorities have been in touch with their counterparts in Argentina in an attempt to discover the origin of the boat.
