New Medical Services Director Appointed

Norman McGregor Edwards has been appointed as the new Medical Services Director for the Falkland Islands Government, starting in the second week of January. He will be leaving the post of General Manager (North) for the Greater Glasgow Primary Care Trust where he worked for the last two years. He started his career in the Royal Air Force in 1971, staying until 1990. He then worked as a Practice/Fund Manager in Sheffield and Teeside, before joining the NHS in Glasgow in 1994 as Assistant Director of Primary Care for the Greater Glasgow Health Board. He was born in the Isle of Man in 1951 and brought up in Aberdeenshire and Warwickshire, before attending the University of Sheffield where he graduated with a degree in English Literature and Language. He also completed an MBA with the Open University in 1983. Mr McGregor Edwards said: "My invaluable experience in Glasgow, managing Primary Care to over 600,00 people in the North of Glasgow, has left me well equipped to cope in the Falkland Islands. The Islands provide an excellent range of health services over an area the size of Wales and I am looking forward to being part of a professional and dedicated team, which is committed to providing the very best in care." One of Norman's roles in the Falklands will be to continue developing links with UK hospitals to provide services previously undertaken by the military. The King Edward VII Memorial Hospital in Stanley was formally demilitarised in July this year. Links have already been established with Leeds General Hospital and Southampton General Hospital. He is married to Jane and has one daughter aged 17.

Stanley Services Award New Contract

Stanley Services Ltd, the exclusive supplier of fuel oil and petroleum products in the Falkland Islands, have released information surrounding the award of a new contract for the provision of bunkering services within Falkland territorial and inland waters to a consortium led by the Lavinia Group.
