Peru inaugurates largest and most modern air cargo hub

Peru's president Alan García officially opened this week Lima Cargo City, considered the most modern air freight logistics centre in Latinamerica, built with an investment of more than 35 million US dollars.

Located close to the Jorge Chavez International Airport of Lima and with more than 55,000 square meters of floor space, Lima Cargo City will host the main freight operators and double the amount of air cargo processed.

The new centre is fully equipped with the latest technology, and is intended to meet the highest international safety standards.

Its strategic location in Jorge Chavez International Airport provides immediate benefits by enabling any commercial operation and/or air-freight-related business to be carried out as efficiently as possible.

During daily operations, Lima Cargo City will gather 1,086 workers, distributed amongst 18 airlines, 5 banks, 15 cargo agencies, business centres and stores. Cargo city will also host storage areas, Customs and other Peruvian government offices related to trade.

A 380 metres long tunnel connects Cargo city directly to the airport’s ramps enabling a quick dispatch of cargo.
