  Falklands celebrates decision to hold Commonwealth Games in Glasgow 2026

  

  The Falkland Islands Sports Council celebrated and shared the good news from Scotland on the 2026 Commonwealth Games. Although the Commonwealth Games 2026 Statement refers to Scottish government support and no other details, from the Falklands reaction was most positive, “there is no further news on what sports are included, or the numbers of places we will have……but at least there is a Games.”

  Commonwealth Games future in doubt: financial benefits clash with a post colonial legacy

  

  The 2026 edition of the Commonwealth Games, are again in trouble with no hosts on sight. In April 2022, the Australian state of Victoria was awarded hosting rights for the 2026 edition, when over 70 nations were expected to participate. But just over a year later, it backed out.

  Canada's Alberta follows Australia and drops out as host for 2030 Commonwealth Games

  

  The government of the Canadian province of Alberta has pulled its support for a bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games, due to rising costs. A joint bid was being considered by the Canadian province, centered around the cities of Edmonton and Calgary.

  Falklands present at the Trinbago 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games

  

  The seventh Commonwealth Youth Games are taking place on the Islands of Trinidad and Tobago until August 11, with over 1000 athletes and para athletes between the ages of 14-18 participating in seven sports managed by 500 officials.

  Scotland willing to joint-host 2026 Commonwealth Games, and “compete under the Scottish banner”

  

  Scotland's First Minister Humza Yousaf has said he is willing to consider proposals for the country to host at least part of the 2026 Commonwealth Games. The Australian state of Victoria cancelled its plan to stage the event due to soaring costs, raising doubts about whether it will go ahead at all.

  Double celebration for the Falkland Islands. The Islands Lawn Bowls Ladies Single Daphne Arthur Almond beat India's Tania Choudhary in a very tense competition from 21 to 20.

  Birmingham 2022 Queen's Baton Relay officially launched at Buckingham Palace

  

  Queen Elizabeth on Thursday officially launched the Birmingham 2022 Queen’s Baton Relay in a unique ceremony at Buckingham Palace. The Queen, accompanied by The Earl of Wessex, attended a special ceremony on the forecourt of the Palace to launch the 16th official Queen’s Baton Relay.

  Birmingham 2022 Queen's Baton Relay in the Falklands on June 7

  

  The Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games to take place from 28 July to 8 August will be preceded by the 16th official Queen’s Baton Relay. An epic journey across the Commonwealth, with the Queen’s Baton visiting all 72 nations and territories, reaching Europe, Africa, Asia, Oceania, the Caribbean and in the Americas, among others the Falkland Islands on 7 June 2022.

  On Monday members of the royal family attended a service at Westminster Abbey to celebrate Commonwealth Day. As well as a message from Queen Elizabeth II, the service also featured speeches from heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua and performances by singers Craig David and Alexandra Burke.
