    Chilean fisheries 2006 exports could reach 3 billion dollars

    Chile's fisheries exports totaled 2.945 billion US dollars during the first ten months of 2006, up 19.6% over the same period a year ago, according to the Fisheries Under Secretariat, SUBPESCA. But figures also show that the total volume was 1.157 million tons compared to 1.36 million tons in 2005, which means 18% less.

    Royal Navy agrees to fisheries deal for shipbuilders

    Britain's Royal Navy fishery patrol ships received a new lease on life when the Ministry of Defence settled a GBP 52 million (USD 101 million) deal with Portsmouth shipbuilders. The new contract with VT Group effectively guarantees that the HMS Tyne, HMS Severn and HMS Mersey will remain at sea until the end of 2013.

    The Undersecretariat of Fishing and Development Activities of the Delta Area is now publishing on its web site maps that show the real-time positions of fishing vessels equipped with satellite monitoring devices, the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs (MAA) reported.

    Argentina establishes hake TAC of 340.000 tons

    Argentina's Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food Secretariat, SAGP y A, established a total 2007 allowable catch, TAC, of 340.000 tons of common hake (Merluccius hubbsi) which is 10.5% lower than last year's TAC of 380.000 tons.

    The Maritime Front Joint Technical Commission (CTMFM) has set the summer ban for common hake (Merluccius hubbsi) in the common fishing zone (CFZ) shared by Argentina and Uruguay, between 1 January and 31 march 2007.
