The latest fishing statistics from the Fisheries Department show that for the month of June 1,822 metric tonnes of Ilex were caught, a decrease of 34,485 metric tonnes on the month of May.

Hoki catches were down by 714 metric tonnes, Kingclip catches were down by 136 metric tonnes while toothfish catches were only down by 13 metric tonnes on May to 227 metric tonnes. The total catch by nation for June showed that Korea at 1,403 metric tonnes caught the most Ilex. The Hoki catch was split between Spain who caught 296 metric tonnes and the Falklands who accounted for 182 metric tonnes. Toothfish catches were split between three countries with Korea taking the lion's share at 157 metric tonnes, the Falklands coming second with 65 metric tonnes and Spain the balance of 5 metric tonnes. Out of a total of 2,848 metric tonnes of fish, Korea took 1,580 metric tonnes.

There were seven eligible, licensed fishing vessels on 27th June 2000 of which four were fishing. One for unrestricted finfish, two were experimental longliners and one for restricted finfish. Of these four, two are Falklands registered, one Spanish and one South Korean.

The first season, which targets squid, ended 30 June. The second season, which basically targets finfish, started on the 1st July.
