Ecuadorian military finds more than 750 antipersonnel mines in border with Colombia

More than 750 handmade antipersonnel mines were found in the Amazonian province of Sucumbios, bordering Colombia. The finding in charge of the Ecuadorian military was reported Thursday by the Joint Command of the Armed Forces.

US Secretary of State to visit Chile in early October and meet with president Boric

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken will be visiting Chile on 4/5 October as part of a tour of South American Pacific countries including Peru and Colombia, according to Chilean foreign ministry sources. The purpose is to continue working on the agenda addressed last June by presidents, Gabriel Boric and Joe Biden.

February inflation in Chile moderates but still high; beware of consequences of the Russia/Ukraine war

Inflation in Chile during February climbed 0,3%, well below market expectations, but still 7,8% in the last twelve months, the highest recorded since November 2008. The release was done by the country's stats institute, INE, and was indeed a positive announcement given the private estimates (0,6% and 0,7%) and the fact that inflation was effectively surging, 1,2% in January.

Chilean Deputies pass State of Exception for southern provinces

Chile's Lower House Monday passed 73 votes in favor, 41 against, and five abstentions the renewal of the State of Exception in four southern provinces in the Bíobio and La Araucanía regions. The measure still has to be approved by the Senate.
