    Six arrested in Venezuela said to plan Maduro's murder

    These detentions came just two days after the US Treasury imposed sanctions on 16 of Maduro's acolytes accused by Washington of obstructing voting during Venezuela's July 28 elections

    Venezuelan authorities arrested three Americans, two Spaniards, and one Czech national allegedly involved in a plot to kill President Nicolás Maduro, Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello announced on nationwide TV this weekend saying the suspects belonged to a mission arranged by the CIA to overthrow the Bolivarian government. Cabello also showed footage of the guns seized from the would-be perpetrators.

    Edmundo González Urrutia, a prominent Venezuelan opposition leader who was elected, to many in the international community, as the legitimate winner of the July 28 presidential election, arrived in Spain this Sunday after being granted political asylum by the Spanish government. González had sought refuge at the Dutch Embassy in Caracas before securing his passage out of the country.

    World's oldest person passes away aged 117

    “I have lived longer than I should have and death is an expected visit,” the joyful Branyas once said

    María Branyas Morera, a US-born Spanish woman who was believed to be the world's longest-lived person following the passing of French nun Lucile Randon in January last year, died at the age of 117, her family announced on social media Tuesday. In her X account, she described herself as “very old, but not an idiot.” Branyas was living in a home for the elderly in Olot, Girona. Her family planned a strictly private memorial.

    The inquests into the deaths of six 6 crew members of the FV Argos Georgia was opened this week in the Falkland Islands Coroners Court, Malcolm Simmons. Those in attendance, both virtually and in person, included Nigel Phillips, Governor of St Helena, (since the vessel flew the Red Ensign of St Helena), representatives for the Government of South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands, Nick Hibberd from the UK Marine Accident Investigation Branch, Rosario Bernal, Consul General of Spain in London, and next of kin for crew members.
