  Scientific research study on Avian Influenza Virus, HPAIV

  

  Nature Communications has published and made public an extensive report with full results on field sampling and diagnosis of the deadly Bird Flu virus, high pathogenicity avian influenza virus (HPAIV), detected in the Falkland Islands and South Georgia, which apparently is rapidly spreading to sea birds and mammals species in sub-Antarctica islands and the frozen continent.

  UK Ice Patrol HMS Protector joins the Unitas navies exercise in Chilean waters

  

  UK Ice Patrol HMS Protector is in Chile where she is taking part in Unitas - the world’s longest running multinational maritime exercise sponsored by the US Navy. This year the Chilean Navy is hosting the exercise, while the Royal Navy's icebreaker served as the backdrop to the opening ceremony.

  Falklands: “Three strikes and out of the game”, for tourist operators who don't comply with guidelines

  

  The cruise ship season is approaching, and the Falkland Islands Government Environment Department and the Falkland Islands Tourist Board (FITB) have been working together to create and implement a set of strict and clear guidelines for operators and tourists visiting the Gypsy Cove and Yorke Bay penguin colonies on cruise ship days.

  Falklands/Brize Norton airbridge flights fully booked; recommendations for challenging September

  

  The Falkland Islands Government with the UK Ministry of Defense is working on bookings and waiting lists for the airbridge, during the month of September and announced the following release, ”Our community will be aware of the current strain on Airbridge flights where all flights are fully booked, and nearly every flight waitlisted. The cancelled and returned flights in late August has added additional pressure on the availability of Airbridge seats.

  Falklands closer to having a National Park at Hill Cove Mountains

  

  The Falkland Islands is closer to having a national park in the Hill Cove Mountains to the north of West Falkland. This is the result of a public consultation held by the Falkland Islands Government Environment Department from February to April 2024 on the proposed designation of such a national park.
