  World Penguin Day: 9 out of 18 species breed in UK Overseas Territories, RSPB report

  

  April 25 is World Penguin Day, from the impressive 1.2m tall Emperor Penguins of the British Antarctic Territory to the smaller, agile Southern Rockhopper Penguins of the Falkland Islands – nine out of 18 penguin species breed in the UK Overseas and British Antarctic Territories. Follows a report from the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, RSPB.

  Falklands celebrate close bonds with BAS and RRS Sir David Attenborough

  

  A year ago the Falkland Islands Governor Alison Blake CMG and members of the Falklands community were welcomed onboard the state of the art icebreaker RRS Sir David Attenborough. This week the Governor invited some of the crew of the Falklands flagged Sir David Attenborough before they departed for BAS bases in Antarctica.

  Argentine Air Force Saab 340B makes successful first flight to Marambio Base in Antarctica

  

  The Argentine Air Force (FAA) has added the Swedish-built Saab 340B twin turboprop to the list of aircraft able to perform logistics missions to Antarctica after a successful first flight last week. The model is ideal for small-size operations that would otherwise require the services of the much larger and four-engined Lockheed C-130 Hercules.
